Scott R. Halloin, Shareholder
Mr. Halloin is a shareholder attorney at Halloin & Murdock, S.C. His practice focuses on complex commercial and residential construction disputes, including code compliance, delay claims, design disputes and contract disputes. He formerly owned a construction company, which has given him in-depth knowledge of building codes and the most common building code violations.
Mr. Halloin was among the first lawyers in the Midwest to practice in a narrow subset of construction litigation known as toxigenic mold litigation. Along with a handful of other lawyers in the country, he has handled these matters extensively since the first significant mold-related lawsuits were filed in 1999. Mr. Halloin initially became involved in mold litigation when the home he lived in at the time developed toxigenic mold that necessitated remediation. Since that time, he has become a regular speaker on toxigenic mold litigation and code compliance issues at legal and industry seminars.
Mr. Halloin is a frequent presenter at seminars across the state. His recent presentations include "The Mold Challenge in Wisconsin," "Managing Construction
Projects," "Building Codes in Wisconsin," "AlA Contracts," "Prevailing Wage Law in
Wisconsin," "How to Use and Manage GMP Contracts Successfully in Wisconsin," and "The Fundamentals of Construction Contracts: Understanding the Issues."
Mr. Halloin also contributes frequently to major legal publications. His articles and treatise chapters provide important insight into legal issues regarding breach of business contracts, general contractor and subcontractor issues, payment and warranty claims, the economic loss doctrine, mechanic's liens, and related insurance and bond issues. Notably, Mr. Halloin authored Wisconsin Construction Design Law, which was included in the AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION'S STATE-BY-STATE GUIDE TO CONSTRUCTION & DESIGN LAW (1998).
Mr. Halloin graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 1990. He earned his bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Mr. Halloin is licensed to practice in Wisconsin and Illinois.
